Forest View held a successful community forum for Hispanic families and allies.
State legislator, Mike Woodard attended along with other community officials and special speaker, Wilden Acosta, a local high school student who was detained by immigration officials for months before being released.
Thank you to all those who attended and helped arrange the evening event.
The 5th grade faced a tough game with teachers on Friday, March 10. The game was a fundraiser for the 5th grade field trip, so even though the teachers won by a few points, the 5th grade students were the real winners. Thanks to everyone who attended and participated.
Congrats to Forest View’s 4th grade Odyssey of the Mind team. They placed second in their division during the Odyssey of the Mind regional competition at Wake Tech on March 4. The team will now go on to compete in the state OOTM competition at NC A&T on April 1. They are the only Division 1 team from Durham Public Schools to advance to the state competition.
The team consists of Niall Buckley, Thomas Formy-Duval, Hana Sato, William Cardwell, Nora Plourde, Sam Garber, and Sofia Aballay. Coaches are FV parents, Lindsay Buckley and Jeannine Sato. Ms. Droege served as the team’s volunteer judge (she attended and judged other schools at the all-day event, thank you Ms. Droege!)
The name of their long-term problem is called “A superhero cliffhanger.” The team created a skit with homemade costumes and set involving a bug society, nemesis, sidekick, superhero, an erupting volcano and marshmallow shooters.
This is the third year the team has competed in Odyssey of the Mind and the first year it has advanced to the state competition.Wish them luck!
