PTA President’s Letter for Forest View Families
Welcome to another wonderful year as part of our Forest View community! I am your PTA president, Dina Niblock. I have a 2nd grader and a FV graduate who is now in 7th grade. Our PTA works to support our teachers, staff, students and families. We work closely with school staff to plan many events each year – including our Fall Festival on October 7.
The PTA raises money to support the many aspects of Forest View life. Look for information coming home soon on how to participate in our annual fundraiser – the ‘Unfundraiser’. Last year we raised more than $16,000. For the first time in more than 10 years, we will not be staffing a concession stand at the Duke football and basketball games. This was a big portion of our PTA budget, but we had difficulty finding volunteers. If we want to continue providing the financial support we have in the past, the ‘Unfundraiser’ will be more important than ever.
The money that our PTA raises supports classroom teachers, specials (such as music, art, PE, and technology), our media center, cultural arts programming, outdoor learning/gardening, our science program, and much more.
There are many opportunities to get involved at Forest View. Each class will need two room parents, and the PTA helps coordinate that effort. We need help at the Fall Festival, on our Landscaping Days, and during Multicultural Night and Science Share. Volunteers act as tour guides for prospective families, provide snacks and breakfasts to our teachers and staff throughout the year, chaperone field trips and more. We hope you can find a volunteer opportunity that interests you and works with your schedule.
Please check our PTA website (https://forestviewpta.net) regularly to learn about how the PTA contributes to the Forest View community. Sign up to receive the weekly PTA email. It provides information on upcoming events and how to stay involved. You can use this link to send us your contact information (http://eepurl.com/buDTT1).
We also invite you to attend PTA/Steering Team meetings throughout the year to keep up with all that is happening at Forest View. Check out our bulletin board as you enter Forest View to learn more about your PTA.
If you have any questions, please contact any of our PTA officers. We are excited you are part of the Forest View community. We look forward to all the great things this year will bring.
The Parent Teacher Association supports the teachers, students and school by raising funds, planning events, and coordinating family involvement. We work together to help our Forest View community thrive. To keep our community thriving, we need to continue to grow our membership and include new faces, ideas, and talent each year.
We consider each and every Forest View parent and staff an important part of our PTA community. If you would also like to support the PTA on the district, state and national level, we ask you to consider paying $5/year in PTA dues.
These dues go to support our state and national PTAs who strongly advocate for education on all levels. They also offer great websites with helpful information on a variety of education topics. The Durham Council of PTAs provides our officers with training and helps us connect with other local PTAs. Look for sign-up sheets at Meet and Greet events and in your child’s folder.
Stay in the loop about school events and volunteer opportunities in these ways:
