The Parent Teacher Association supports the teachers, students and school by raising funds, planning events, and coordinating family involvement. We work together to help our Forest View community thrive. To keep our community thriving, we need to continue to grow our membership and include new faces, ideas, and talent each year.

We consider each and every Forest View parent and staff an important part of our PTA community. If you would also like to support the PTA on the district, state and national level, we ask you to consider paying $5/year in PTA dues.

These dues go to support our state and national PTAs who strongly advocate for education on all levels. They also offer great websites with helpful information on a variety of education topics. The Durham Council of PTAs provides our officers with training and helps us connect with other local PTAs. Look for sign-up sheets at Meet and Greet events and in your child’s folder.

Stay in the loop about school events and volunteer opportunities in these ways:

  • Weekly PTA e-newsletter, which includes announcements about upcoming school events, volunteer opportunities, and general information for families. You can sign up for the newsletter here.
  • PTA website, which  helps tell the story of our vibrant, diverse, and engaged school community. Follow our blog for the latest posts and school event pictures.  If you have comments or suggestions for our website, or want to suggest a topic for our PTA blog, please contact web editor Jeannine Sato jninesato@gmail.com.
  • Twitter. You can follow us on Twitter @forestviewpta for K-5 education related issues and local activities for families.

Our PTA Budget funds a range of projects at our school and supports both individual classrooms, grade-level, and school-wide programming. You can view the approved 2016-17 budget. Please see our new Returned Check Policy approved at the September PTA/Steering meeting

Letter from former PTA President:

Welcome to another wonderful year as part of our Forest View community!

I am your PTA president, Mara Deutsch.  I have a 4rd grader and a recent FV graduate (now middle-schooler!)  We have an active PTA that works had to support our teachers, staff, students, and families.   We work closely with school staff to plan many events each year including our amazing Fall Festival coming up on October 15th, 2016.

Please make sure you learn more about the PTA and upcoming events when you meet your child’s teacher at Meet and Greet on August 25th and the Kindergarten Breakfast on August 26th.   We’ll be selling t-shirts, car magnets, and water bottles so you can show your Forest View Falcon spirit!

Our PTA raises funds to support the many aspects of Forest View life.  Soon we’ll share information on how to participate in our one and only annual fundraiser, or as we call it, the ‘Unfundraiser’. Last year we raised over $18,000!

Another important way that we support Forest View is through our Duke Concessions stands at the home football and basketball games.  We’ll need lots of volunteers, and it is a fun way to meet other families.  Last year, our Concessions stands brought in $12,000 of our PTA budget!

The funds that our PTA raises go to supporting classroom teachers, specials (such as music, art, PE, and technology), our media center, cultural arts programming, outdoor learning/gardening, our science program, and so much more.

There are many opportunities to get involved at Forest View.  Each class will ne
ed two room parents, and the PTA helps coordinate and support that effort.   Classroom teachers will have many other short and long-term volunteer opportunities.  Our families volunteer at the Fall Festival, on our Landscaping Days, and during our fabulous events including Multicultural Night and Science Share.  We act as tour guides for prospective families, provide snacks and breakfasts to our teachers and staff throughout the year, volunteer for Duke concessions, sponsor a full week of Teacher Appreciation activities, chaperone field trips, and so much more.

Please use the following link to receive the weekly PTA email full of great information on upcoming events and how to stay involved:  http://eepurl.com/buDTT1

We also hope you attend our first PTA/Steering Team meeting on Tuesday, September 6th , 2016 at 6:30 PM in the Media Center.

If you have any questions, please contact me or any of our PTA officers.  We are excited you are part of the Forest View community and look forward to all the great things this year will bring.

All the best,
Mara Deutsch
