Science Olympiad Team Places 6th

Last weekend, Forest View’s Science Olympiad varsity team placed 6th in the North Carolina Science Olympiad. Out of the 38 events (19 Varsity and 19 JV), Forest View took 1st place 10 times (about 25% of the time). Overall, the varsity team placed 6th. To prepare for the event, which included competitions named Data Crunchers, Marshmallow Catapult, Fossil Frenzy, and Backyard Biologists, the students and their coaches began meeting once a week in September.

Special thanks to head coaches Eric Lipp and Lauren Green and event coaches Vicki Isley, Zachary Sennett, Michelle Kirksey, Patrick Olson, Jen Hervey, Sean Flynn, Halle Shinn, Richard Hancock, Cas Cogswell, and Sandy Taylor.

North Carolina Science Olympiad’s elementary events were developed by North Carolina Master Elementary Teachers. The events align with the NC Standard Course of Study and balance various science disciplines—students need to know facts, concepts, processes, skills, and applications.
