Celebrating Fifth Graders: Battle of the Books
We’re great readers at Forest View! This year, our fifth grade Battle of the Books team read 18 books selected by the NC School Library Media Association for the Elementary Battle of the Books competition. Our team met regularly throughout the year to discuss the books and to prepare for the competition, which began in February. Our team won first place in Durham and second place in the regional competition! Thanks especially to our Battle of the Books coaches Ms. Graves and Ms. Johnston who’ve taught the BoB team not only how to be critical and thoughtful readers, but also how to work together as a team, to be good sports win or lose, and to cultivate their joy of reading.
Rising fifth graders, get ready! Here’s next year’s list.
In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.
