Fifth grade students created pinwheels in Ms. Flowers’ art class in honor of International Peace Day. For this project, Ms. Flowers introduced them to “zentangles,” where artists are to develop their art as they go along and not be sure how it will turn out. Experiencing this act of pattern-making often gets artists “into the groove” in a quiet, zen-like moment. While most zentangles are black and white, some color can be used, as well as pencil shading, to create a 3-D effect.
